The People Power Revolution during Pres. Marcos' time

I am going to share an incident which could be a very good example for the Agenda-Setting theory. 

But first...

Again, what is Agenda-Setting theory?? 

Agenda-Setting Theory states that the news media have a large influence on audiences, in terms of what stories to consider newsworthy and how much prominence and space to give them. Agenda-setting theory’s main postulate is salience transfer. Salience transfer is the ability of the news media to transfer issues of importance from their news media agendas to public agendas.

For me, what could be a good example for this theory?

 

I remember in the history of the Philippines, there was this one thing called the "Edsa Revolution". It is also known as The People Power Revolution.

"The People Power Revolution (also known as the EDSA Revolution and the Philippine Revolution of 1986) was a series of popular demonstrations in the Philippines that occurred in 1983-86. The methods used amounted to a sustained campaign of civil resistance against regime violence and electoral fraud. This case of nonviolent revolution led to the departure of President Ferdinand Marcos and the restoration of the country's democracy. It has been an inspiration for the Revolutions of 1989 that contributed to the ending of communist dictatorships in Eastern Europe. It is also referred to as the Yellow Revolution due to the presence of yellow ribbons during the demonstrations and the arrival of Benigno Aquino, Jr. It was widely seen as a victory of the people against the 20-year running authoritarian, repressive. regime of then president Ferdinand Marcos and made news headlines as "the revolution that surprised the world"."

Before the Edsa Revolution happened, that time, President Marcos was the one who was leading the Philippines. Ninoy Aquino was running to be the next president. But then, Ninoy was shot at the airport and he was killed. When the media reported this to the people, the impact was really intense to the people. The reaction of the people about the news were really unpleasant. That is when The People Power started. It was the rally of the Filipinos in the Edsa and to kick Marcos out of Malacanang. 

Because of this incident, the filipinos became united. Its influence to the people is that eventhough it is not clearly stated that Marcos was the one who ordered the people to kill Ninoy, the Filipinos already assumed it. It made a really big difference in the Philippines. It also changed the looks of President Marcos for lots of Filipinos. 

The mass media made a very big role during this incident. The news influenced the people completely and the Filipinos changed how they look at President Marcos. Although Marcos did lots of things to the Philippines, the only thing stuck in the minds of the Filipinos is that President Marcos is a bad man.
